The Region’s Flagship Winery – Ktima Gerovassiliou
Ktima Gerovassiliou is a showcase winery that has become a shining example of quality and excellence in Greek winemaking. Founded by Vangelis Gerovassiliou, a key figure in the revival of modern Greek viticulture, the estate played a crucial role in bringing Greek wines to international attention in the early 2000s. He is also widely known as the “father of Malagousia“ — the once nearly extinct indigenous grape variety that he helped rescue and elevate to national prominence.
Tour Highlights:
- A Stroll Through the Estate. The visit begins with a walk through the beautifully designed grounds — a true visual treat. Vangelis Gerovassiliou is an avid collector and supporter of contemporary art, and the estate is dotted with striking sculptures and installations created by Greek artists.
- Winery Facilities Tour. Guests then visit the production area, where they’ll be introduced to the key stages of the winemaking process, guided by professionals who bring the story of the wine to life.
- Wine Museum Experience. The tour continues in the estate’s Wine Museum, which offers insight into the traditional methods of winemaking — from soil preparation to bottling. A special highlight is Mr Gerovassiliou’s private corkscrew collection, which now features nearly 3,000 unique pieces.
Wine Tasting with a View. Following the tour, visitors are invited to taste a selection of estate wines at the onsite wine bar, which boasts panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and the legendary Mount Olympus. Guests may choose individual wines or opt for tasting sets (see options here ). A refined menu of Mediterranean cuisine is also available to perfectly complement the wines.
